January 1998 to December 2000:

Managing Director, Vigers Asset Management Limited, part of the Vigers Group based in Hong Kong providing professional property services and having some 350 employees.  It also had branches throughout Asia including in particular, China, Thailand, Korea and Taiwan.

VAML was set up to: advise on non-performing debt; acquisition of non-performing debt portfolios; acquisition of (convertible) equity stakes within a debt restructuring exercise etc.; development of general business in Asia.

Group General Counsel to the Vigers Group and its parent company, SunChase International Group (China) Limited. Conducted general work on behalf of both Groups; negotiated and drafted contracts for share acquisitions, shareholders agreements, joint ventures etc; advised on variations necessitated by changes of legislation;

Took proactive role in providing general  advice to both groups including the overall management structure of Vigers;  co-ordinated and managed the legal work on behalf of both organizations (including litigation) and instructed law firms both in Hong Kong and in the Region in connection with all litigation and other legal processes required; generally advised in connection with all legal aspects of the businesses conducted by both organisations.

Forged links with well-known international groups in South-East Asia for the purpose of providing comprehensive property services and management of non-performing debt portfolios.


March 1996 to January 1998 

General Counsel, Peregrine Direct Investments Limited (“PDI”).  PDI was the direct investment subsidiary of the Peregrine Investment Holdings Limited, at the time, a leading (quoted) banking group based in Hong Kong, having some 28 offices in 15 Countries around the World. PDI was responsible for effecting the main investments on behalf not only of the Public Company, but also the private company, Peregrine International Limited.  In addition, PDI handled the management of a Publicly quoted Fund, namely, The Investment Company of China, in which, inter alia, funds from George Soros and Carlo de Benedetti are invested.

Advised in connection with the equity investments made by PDI on behalf of the various entities it represented. Advised further in connection with the general management and organisation of both PDI, ICC and the sundry portfolios of investments held by them.  Liaised with outside lawyers. General corporate work, including drafting of sundry legal documentation; working closely in connection with the setting up of Fund on behalf of Peregrine Investments Holdings Limited, instructing and working with lawyers in Hong Kong, Washington DC and Cayman Islands. Liaising further in connection with the management and investments of the Asian Infrastructure Fund (“AIF”), a US$1 billion Fund.

Advising further in connection with investments that had become adverse and on the steps required to deal with the same.  Providing general commercial advice.

April 1990 to March 1996

A senior partner in Forsyte Kerman (later Forsyte Saunders Kerman) of 76 New Cavendish Street, London, W.1. (now ceased in operation) Dealing with development and construction work (factory and warehouse estates and shopping centres); general land acquisition and disposal.  General corporate and commercial work.
